An Unexpected Break

My mom had knee surgery earlier this month which meant that I became her caregiver. As you can imagine it has been extremely exhausting but I am glad that I could do this for her. Being a caregiver is hard work! This experience with my mom has shown me the importance of taking care of one’s self.

I didn’t fully anticipate the amount of time and energy that would go into being basically a full time caregiver for my mom. This has meant that a lot of my own priorities have been put to the back burner. Now that she is doing well and able to do more for herself I can resume working on my goals.

Recommitted – to my goals and to my health.

I try to find the silver lining with every situation. Even though I was a little bummed that I couldn’t do everything that I wanted to do these last couple of weeks, I am thankful for the break.

This break has given me new perspective and a newfound determination. I want/need to achieve my goals because I want to make a better life for myself and to be able to take care of my mother as she ages.

What happened in Charleston and Durham

As a black American, it is frightening and frustrating to see such displays of hate. I think this march echoes what many people in my community have been saying about racism – it still exists.

However, I choose to believe that we are greater than this.

Former President Obama quoted Nelson Mandela – “No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin or his background or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love. For love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite,”

Little Lea // Wouldn’t be a link love on my blog if I didn’t have at least one animal link up here. I’m super in love with Lea – the little white lion cub. Be careful, she’ll steal your heart away. (Here are more pics of Lea: 1 // 2 // 3 // 4 )

These Colors // Can I get an Amen for this beautifully designed room. It is truly jaw droppingly gorgeous.
