Weight Loss: Update 2


I lost 8 lbs…THAT’S RIGHT….8 LBS!!!!!!!! The same 8lbs I’ve been trying to lose for 5 years. I’m so excited because I feel like I’m finally on the right path to losing weight for my body. I’ve found something that works and have finally stuck with it long enough to see results. I know I have a long way to go but I couldn’t be more thrilled.

10 down, 50 more to go…

In the past, I would get super frustrated when the weight wasn’t coming off quickly when in reality it was coming off, just not fast enough in my mind. I have to realize that this is a lifelong commitment and that changing bad habits takes time.

I’m actually happy with where I’m at mentally and that is the first step.

Although I feel off the wagon over the Christmas and New Year holiday I am excited to get back up and running with my goals.

Calories Count

No matter how much we try to get away from calories, they count. I just hate counting them. Like really, really hate counting calories. It just doesn’t feel normal and I know it’s not something that I will do for the rest of my life. So I was left with the question, “how am I going to make sure that I reduce my caloric intake”?

Before I completely ruled out counting calories I gave it another try. Maybe I didn’t hate it as much as I remembered. So, I challenged myself to use the SparkPeople app to track my calories and just as I suspected I hated every single minute of having to log on to do it.

So I decided to give halving my portions a try to make sure I am reducing my caloric intake.

My co-worker is actually the one who kind of started me on this path. I saw her one day and noticed that she was losing weight. I asked her what she was doing and she told me that she just started cutting her portions in half.

So I knew that I would be able to do that as a means of reducing my calories or at least I could give it a good ‘ole try. I also came across an easy to read book and that talked about cutting portions in half called “Just Eat Half “. The premise is to just eat half of your meals. I know super simple right?! The more I went digging on the internet for more people who used this technique the more I realized that this is something that lots of people do.

I really do think that this is what has helped me lose those 8lbs.  I wasn’t as consistent as I should have been especially over the holiday break, but I am definitely going to incorporate this as a part of my weight loss journey.

As far as accountability goes I am going to use the method of keeping track of my progress on my super-sized calendar on my wall. I’m going to use green stars for days where I’ve used all of my techniques and gotten some kind of exercise in and red stars when I have not. The goal is to see more green on the calendar than I do see red.

Also, I finally bought a battery for my scale. I use the excuse that it doesn’t work so that I didn’t have to weigh myself but all it really needed was a battery. Although, I don’t like weighing myself I do think that it is a good overall measure of how I am doing and it will help with accountability and motivation.
